In today’s society there are folks who don’t utilize social media. Posting every nuance about your life doesn’t seem to be for everyone. Even so social media is becoming a primary source for companies and employees to find each other. The story below is a prime example of how an individual’s social media profile inadvertently and fortunately helped a man find a job, and lead him to a new career opportunity. Michael Hammonds is the Apollo employee who found his recruiter and next opportunity through LinkedIn. Please find his story below:
Prior to working with Apollo, what were you looking for in a career?
Before joining the Apollo team, I wanted a career that would be fulfilling, enjoyable and challenging. I was looking for opportunities to enhance my knowledge base while honing my existing skills.
How did you find out about Apollo?
I am part of the LinkedIn community and my profile includes my work history. I was contacted by Carolyn who, luckily for me, thought I would be a good fit for a position she needed filled.
How did your experience with Apollo compare to what you expected or experienced with other staffing firms?
It is my first time on this side of the staffing model. In the past I have used staffing agencies to fill staffing needs on teams I have managed. I have found Apollo to be great to work with. Carolyn guided me through the hiring process (which was challenging because the company requires very extensive security background checks) and I suddenly find myself in a wonderful new job.
What excites you most about your current job?
I have been drawing lots of pictures! One of my duties is to produce drawings in AutoCAD, something I have enjoyed for years but did not get much chance to do. My new position combines CAD skills with Project Management and I am loving it! I am also working in a new industry so I am learning new and interesting things every day
Is there anyone specifically at Apollo that you would like to thank?
Carolyn Pelletier has been great! First of all she found me (thanks for that) and introduced me to this great opportunity. She helped me through the interview process and the maze of paperwork that is required when working at a government contractor.
What else would you like us to know?
Sometimes we all feel the need to make a change. It could be because we are unhappy, or we no longer feel challenged, or we find no opportunities to advance and grow. Regardless of the reason, many of us feel that need but often do not act upon it. Yet just when I needed to make that change, my phone rang. Carolyn called me from Apollo and presented me with a new opportunity. My life better for it and I see increased opportunities in my future as a result.
It is definitely understandable if you wouldn’t like to engage in social media. Even so, in today’s job market, a person can’t afford to not be on social media, especially when looking for your next career option. You will begin to see that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for sure! Please feel free to connect to our recruiters on LinkedIn and watch your network grow!
